G.O.T SCIENCE

(Science Luncheon)

Each year, the South Campus Science Department faculty host a luncheon for students. I volunteered in 2016 to head the luncheon committee. Nearly 200 South Campus students participated in the Fall 2017 Annual Science Luncheon. The event's theme was Game of Thrones. I explored the genetics of inheritance using the cast of characters from the popular HBO series. Professor Janne Nielsen discussed the biology behind whether some of the characters in the show - dragons, direwolves, and whitewalkers - could exist. Professor Henri Lauw-A-Pau described the geology of the real-world locations used for filming the series. Students also participated in a science trivia contest for prizes and had to create a family pedigree of the characters in the series. Lunch was provided by the South Campus President’s Office.
